15 Must-try 4th of July Recipes and Decorations - I love My Kids Blog (2024)

When I was a kid growing up and even now as an adult one of my favorite times of the year was July 4th.As a kid it symbolized the beginning of summer and that school was finally out.The days leading up to the 4thwere always very exciting. My family would be talking about whose house we were going to for a barbecue and where we would be watching the fireworks displays. As I got older my friends and I would plan for a large barbecue and 4thof July party with lots of friends, music, swimming, and of course fireworks. Now that I’m an adult with children of my own the 4this just as special as it was then.

We do our best to plan great family fun activities together. In the past this may have been going over to a friends house for a 4thof July pool party or hosting a barbecue at our house. There is nothing like a great 4thof July barbecue to set the tone for the summer.Hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken and of course we cannot forget about ribs. Then there are all of the things that go along with them like, potato and macaroni salads, corn on the cob, baked beans, cole slaw and more.Lets not forget about the desserts, punches, wines and other tropical drinks that you may fancy.I’m thinking this year we will do one of those giant watermelon boats with fruit salad inside.I haven’t seen one of those since I was a kid.

Watermelon, pineapple, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, kiwi and many others are a great addition to a healthy fruit salad.Sitting outside enjoying the warm sunny weather with some fruit salad is the tops. And after the fruit salad we mustn’t forget about the cakes and cookies.I prefer to have some cupcakes and cookies designed with the red, white and blue of our flag on them.I was thinking this year maybe we will experiment with our pom-pom donut maker. We can dip the pom-poms in red, white, and blue sprinkles and place them on sticks.Speaking of sticks I almost forgot about roasting marshmallows on an open fire.It is an art to get the marshmallows just the right brownness without burning them up.Although as a kid I’m sure I ate my share of blackened marshmallows.Hey once you get to the middle its all gooey and tasty.

Talking about all of this food and good times is getting me really excited about this coming 4thof July.We don’t have any solid plans as of yet but I’m sure something fun will materialize before we know it.
